Derek Brunson wants a shot at a former title challenger in the near future.

Following Paulo Costa’s second-round TKO loss to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 253, Brunson (21-7 MMA, 12-5 UFC) took to Twitter to call him out for a matchup Dec. 12 at UFC 256.

@BorrachinhaMMA tough break. What you doing December 12? Let’s dance! Fisted hand

@danawhite @Mickmaynard2 @AliAbdelaziz00

Has anyone seen or heard from @BorrachinhaMMA. Someone ask him if he’s available Dec 12! @AliAbdelaziz00 @Mickmaynard2 @danawhite Face with monocle

The pair have some history, with Costa (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) calling out Brunson in 2017 after he knocked out Johny Hendricks at UFC 217. At the time, Brunson was coming off a knockout of his own, stopping Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 119.

And Brunson made sure to remind him of that callout.

Never forgot ! 2017 !!! It’s either sink or swim. Michael Phelps vibes Face with look of triumph

Brunson, who’s won three in a row, is coming off a third-round finish of Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC on ESPN+ 31, bouncing the highly touted prospect out of the ranks of the unbeaten. He’s fought the who’s who at 185 pounds and wants to climb back up by taking on Brazilian powerhouse Costa.
